Have you ever wondered how to replace your own car plates and avoid hefty installation fees? Installing a new set of number plates is much easier than you think, and you do not need to be a mechanic or own a toolkit box to do it. Whether you have recently purchased a new car, won a bid for a unique license plate number or simply need to replace a damaged one, fixing your new car plate can be a straightforward task that saves you time and money. In this tutorial, we will walk you through a step-by-step process of how to install your car plates on your own with no tools and minimal effort.
Step 1: Unlocking the Frame
For most cars, your plates will be held up securely by a number plate frame. You will first need to unlock the frame before replacing your plates. To do so, grip the middle of the bottom of the frame and pull towards you. You should hear a ‘click’ sound to indicate that the middle latch is unlocked.

Repeat the steps for the left bottom and right bottom of the frame. In total, there are three latches to pull to unlock the frame (left, middle, right sides of the bottom frame border).

Step 2: Removing the Frame Border
Once you have successfully unlocked all three latches, remove the bottom border of the frame. Your frame is now unlocked.

Step 3: Remove your Existing Car Plate
Now that the frame is unlocked, you can remove your current car plate by pulling it downwards. Some car plates may need some wriggling before they can be removed.

Step 4: Replacing New Plates
Simply insert your new car plates from left-to-right or bottom-to-up, whichever is easier for you to put it back into the frame. Next, lock the frame by putting back the bottom border and pushing down on the three latches. Ensure that you hear three ‘clicks’ to fully lock the frame. With that, you are done!
